Benign enlargement of the prostate is a problem that can occur in men as they get older. The prostate gland is located below the bladder. As the prostate gland enlarges, certain muscles in the gland may become tight and get in the way of the tube that drains urine from the bladder. When the levels of oestrogen are low, these tissues can slowly degenerate, as is experienced during and following the menopause. In addition, low levels of oestrogen can cause distressing symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats, mood swings or depressed mood, reduced sex drive and vaginal dryness. If you are using the eye drops, drop the prescribed number of drops into the pocket made by the lower lid and the eye. Placing drops on the surface of the eyeball can cause stinging.
